This week I’ll be saying goodbye to my Chevy Equinox. This has been such a fun opportunity. This video was the hardest to make because I kept stumbling over my words as I tried to list off all the features that I thought were great – there are so many! Thanks to a patient boyfriend and a good battery life, I was finally able to finish.

Watch me try and list off the features that are tempting me to consider a Chevy.

Coming to an end…

My time with the Chevy Equinox is coming to an end and I didn’t think I would be bummed at the end of the month, but I’ve truly enjoyed driving this car and I’m thankful for the opportunity.  I had so much fun this weekend showing off the car to families and friends, giving them the run down on all of the features like a seasoned pros.  We’re all impressed that Chevy has stepped up and produced a car that is for everyone.

Here’s a list of 10 things that I’ll miss about the Chevy Equinox…

  1. Seat Warmers – there is nothing like sliding into the car on a chilly morning and warming up my tush.  And I bet the feeling is even better in the winter time.
  2. Speaking of sliding in, I love that I do slide in, I don’t climb up into the car  or lower myself into the car.  And the option to tilt my legs up helps to keep me alert when I’m brave enough to make that long drive to Seattle.
  3. And that long drive was made easier by the MP3 hook up.  The Chevy’s speaker system was fantastic and I heard my music (podcasts and audiobooks) all around.  I sang like a rock star up and down the I5 corridor.
  4. The people at OnStar were friendly, patient, and genuinely seemed to be interested when they asked how my day was going.  I called them a few times just to show off and they played right along.  Thank you for that.
  5. The turn by turn directions were made better by that extra beep right when I reached the turn.  Not once was I told that I needed to turn around because I missed a turn.
  6. The ability to move the rear seat up so far that there was zero leg room was great for a woman who loves to travel with her dogs.  My dogs were right behind me, sticking their big heads between the front seats, panting in my ear, as we went on our adventures.  They loved the car.  The Equinox was made for dog owners.
  7. And the height of the car made it easier for my dogs to jump right in and the space in the back was great for shopping, even better for longer trips, because there was plenty of room for our two dogs to lounge comfortably.
  8. Back to the space – thanks for the extra cup holders (in the console and the door), the deep pocket in the mid console that could fit folders, my make up bag, my camera, my purse, and a computer (if I took the rest out).  This car is like a Genie’s bottle – when you get inside, there’s loads of room.
  9. The Equinox offered a smooth ride; we took it everywhere with us and always felt like we were on vacation.  We really enjoyed the Equinox.
  10. The controls are literally at your fingertips; cruise control and hands free dialing are on the wheel; stretch just a little to warm up your seat, switch from FM to XM radio, and adjust the temperature.  The layout keeps in mind that our eyes need to be on the road by making all of the adjustments quick, easy, and intuitive.

There are a lot of other things that I’ll miss about the Chevy Equinox, but this is my list of 10 things (in no particular order).  If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to test drive the Equinox, you will not be disappointed.

The Chevy Back Up Helper

Backing up has never been my specialty. If I see a parallel parking space, I would rather park 10 miles on the opposite side of the city than to even attempt getting into that space. Great thing is, I haven’t ever backed into anything …ever. Yet I find myself paralyzed by the thought of having to do it.

Thankfully the Chevy Equinox has a really nice camera feature. The rear view mirror camera (not the technical name). There is a small camera above the license plate that shows what is behind you on your rear view mirror. I can’t say that i have become trusting of it yet. I always feel that I am closer than it shows me, so I still use my 6th sense right now. I had my husband stand behind me and I inched my way towards him waiting to see if it beeped or anything telling me I was too close, but the darn thing would have let me run him over and still never sounded an alarm. That would be one thing I would like added to the next model.

I wanted to show you how cool the camera was so I had my kids and their friends do a little dance for the cam.

(Side note- everyone was under adult supervision and never in any harms way.)

On Heavy Thinking…

So, I’ve been thinking lately.. about thinking. As in, where I do it. Usually when I’m writing a book, I dwell on it a lot– brainstorming character background, plot points, the whole nine.

I do my best thinking in one of two places: As I fall alseep at night, or more often, while driving. Ther’es something about driving down a quiet open road that just… lends itself to creativity.

The equinox is nice because it practically drives itself. At least, it seems like it. By the time I blink back into focus I’m halfway home. I’m used to a burly truck that takes up half the road or a stick shift jeep that is more utilitarian than cozy.

Where do YOU do your best thinking? In the shower? In bed? While gardening?

In which Mandy is easily impressed

Okay, so maybe I’m easily impressed. Or amused. Probably both. But I really like the pretty blue glow the dashboard gives off:

And… don’t strain your eyes here. If you really want to know what the readout says, I’m listening to TEENAGE DREAM … The Glee version. Naturally.

Pretty, yes? What color are the lights in YOUR car?

Where Did Your Chevy Take You On Father’s Day

Doing some googling I wanted to know what the first crossover was from Chevy. I expected to see something from the 90s, and instead found the Equinox was actually the first of its kind for the brand. Interesting. So if my dad wanted something large to haul the family in back in the day, he would have more than likely made the choice of an Impala it seems.

Being the nerd I am, I find history and the way things evolve interesting. I don’t get into the technicalities of it but just to see photos and side by side stories of then and now, makes me smile. Imagine what my dad was doing on Fathers Day in his Chevy. He obviously didn’t use OnStar to find Parkland Putt Putt or the nearest Arby’s for lunch.

I doubt his car had a rear view camera, power seats, power windows, or even something called XM radio. Heck, I can’t even talk about the XM since even I don’t use it. But think of another 20 years from now when my own daughters are taking their dad out for the day in their Chevy. What will it look like by then?

The Chevy Equinox: It’s Officially A Grocery Get’er

I wish i had the money to see how much it would cost to just fill up the entire car full of groceries. I could have my house stocked for years…or like an extreme coupon lady and have water bottles till I was 50.
Either way, this darn thing has a heck of space!

I could have seriously kept shopping if it wasn’t for my cart breaking.

So how is the Equinox so far? I rode in my own car for the 1st time today and it felt like it wasn’t mine anymore. I don’t miss it at all. The Chevy is surprisingly great on gas, but low on balls (cough). It doesn’t have the “get em guns” I would think would be under the hood. That’s my only downfall. I just look at the Equinox and expect it to haul a boat or trailer, but I almost feel it screams at me to go over 65. However to be good on gas, i suppose it can only have so much under there right?

We Had A Wild Stay-cation In Our Chevy Equinox

Taking a “stay-cation” in our Chevy Equinox was fun. More so on actually getting to our destination. I swear combining my lack of driving skills with OnStar was more than frightening. Some how when OnStar said “You destination is on the right” I thought it was lost because that “entrance” was the highway. After another hour driving around, calling Wild Waves, and trying OnStar again, we found out that OnStar was correct and I was just severely blind and legally blonde. What I thought was a highway ramp was actually the road to the parking. Wow. But on the bright side, without OnStar I wouldn’t have even made it that far ;)

Once we arrived at Wild Waves Theme Park, my husband and daughter decided to go far more extreme than me. I am scared of anything that goes above my head and faster than I can run. So this roller coaster was out of my league. However I got some photos and my brilliant husband taped my daughters reaction.

Thanks for the Rear Camera!

When I learned about the rear camera, I figured it wasn’t really for me.  I don’t have kids.  Ohhh, I was very wrong (about the camera, I still don’t have kids)…

Eyes in the back of my head… from NW Chevy Girls on Vimeo.

The Chevy Equinox allows us to have eyes in the back of our head with the rear camera feature. You put your car in reverse, a screen showing what’s behind you pops up in your rear view mirror, and you stop before hitting one of your dogs.

What a fantastic safety feature.

If you have dogs, then you know the thrill you get when they’re so excited to see you come home.  No matter the day I’ve had, they’re pure, over the top joy when they see me makes me feel like a rock star.  If the garage is open, Sydney (our short haired beauty) will knock down the baby gate that closes their “condo” and run out to greet me.  Rodrigo (the shaggy one) had an incident with the gate when they were puppies and won’t jump over, but my boyfriend will remove the barrier so that he can join his sister.

I’m not sure if they understand that the car is dangerous.  They don’t get tooo close, but close enough that if I’m not careful, they could get hurt.  The rear camera sure did come in handy on this day.
